As part of the Italian international cooperation strategy promoted by the Mattei Plan for Africa, FS Engineering – drawing on its engineering and infrastructure expertise – has completed a pilot technical and vocational training project in Egypt aimed at teachers and students at the Salesian Don Bosco Institutes in Cairo and Alexandria.
FS Engineering and its well-established international role
As the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group’s centre of excellence for integrated, digital and hi-tech engineering, with a well-established international presence and over forty years of experience, FS Engineering brings together multidisciplinary expertise, advanced technology and digital platforms for designing, building and operating complex infrastructure projects, throughout their life cycle. Egypt is a strategic area of operations for FS Engineering, where the company has been engaged for years in designing and providing technical support activities for upgrading the country’s railway network. In particular, FS Engineering has carried out significant projects concerning rail signalling systems and the installation of ETCS Level 1 systems along the key corridors of the network, contributing to the improvement of safety, reliability and efficiency in rail transport.
The training project
The project is carried out in partnership with ELIS and Fondación Promoción Social (FPS) and forms part of a process for equitable partnership and exchange of know-how, aimed at strengthening local skills and enhancing human capital, as a strategic lever for the sustainable development of infrastructure.
Thanks to the support of an operational toolkit and modules dedicated to training design, effective communication and teaching simulation, FS Engineering experts have been able to transfer technical and methodological skills to 20 lecturers and 71 students.
The content ranged from contract and claims management in infrastructure projects, to administrative and office management, and railway, signalling and telecommunications systems, offering an integrated overview of the skills required in the rail transport sector.
The positive feedback from the participating institutions, lecturers and students confirms the value of the initiative and opens up new prospects for collaboration, including potential fieldwork and work placement schemes.
Through this project, FS Engineering has consolidated its role as a key partner in international cooperation, contributing to the development of local skills and strengthening its structured presence in Egypt and the Mediterranean region, consistently with the objectives of the Mattei Plan and a vision of shared and sustainable growth.
