ACOUSTIC & VIBRATION STUDIES DELIVERED BY FS ENGINEERING

As railway noise is increasingly perceived as a major environmental nuisance, acoustic and vibration studies have become an indispensable tool during the design phase. They allow us to rigorously assess and mitigate the long-term environmental impacts caused by railway lines, major junctions, and associated infrastructure during operation.

FS Engineering carries out field surveys to characterise rail emissions and existing ambient noise, alongside conducting acoustic testing of mitigation measures. It performs detailed simulations of varied operational scenarios—comparing pre- and post-mitigation states—using high-precision baseline data, designing bespoke noise-attenuation solutions across all project phases.

Furthermore, with regard to vibrations induced by rail traffic, the company deploys advanced methodologies to accurately predict structural damage to buildings and assess community disturbance levels.

Our acoustic and vibration monitoring spans the railway, road, and industrial sectors, covering impacts in both outdoor and confined environments. In the field of building acoustics, the company carries out acoustic testing of structures, as well as on-site verification of passive acoustic and vibration requirements.

Thanks to the high level of expertise acquired through decades of experience in managing noise pollution, FS Engineering’s Environment division is frequently invited to join working groups set up by the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE) and ISPRA to refine and interpret sector-specific regulations.

Finally, the team pays close attention to technological developments regarding source-based mitigation experiments, innovative material analysis, and upcoming regulatory updates to ensure the correct design and effective integration of every scheme into the surrounding area.
