A new milestone hit on the Verona–Vicenza HS line

A new milestone hit on the Verona–Vicenza HS line

On 8 March 2026, the track laying works were completed on the new 44.25 km long Verona-Vicenza High Speed/High Capacity line, a strategic project for enhancing east-west mobility in northern Italy. The laying of the last 900 metres of track at Casette, in the municipality of Montebello Vicentino, represented a crucial stage in the progress of the infrastructure.

This result was achieved in just six months, since work began in September 2025, on the Verona side, at an average rate of around 4,000 metres of track laid each week. This progress was made possible by construction sites operating seven days a week, two shifts per day, with the use of high-performance machinery, which ensured continuity and maximum operational efficiency.

The work included laying the ballast, placing the tracks, and welding and raising the tracks to the design level. The project reported some impressive figures: over 400,000 tonnes of ballast, 176 km of rails, and approximately 147,000 sleepers, carried out in constant coordination with the civil works and technological systems nearing completion.

FS Engineering made a decisive contribution, in terms of the timing and quality of the work. The High Surveillance and Works Management teams ensured continuous technical supervision, overseeing every phase of the work with document checks, supply checks, field tests and constant monitoring. This cross-cutting commitment ensured that the track fully complies with design standards and operating requirements, providing a decisive contribution to the achievement of the goal.

In March and April 2026, the assembly and installation of the turnouts at Verona Porta Vescovo and the Olmo junction are scheduled, as essential operations for the final configuration of the line. These operations will enable the NRRP objectives to be met by 30 June 2026, with the subsequent activation of the interconnections scheduled for 17 August 2026.

With the completion of the track laying work, the new Verona-Vicenza high-speed line enters its final phase of construction. This milestone is a testament to the strength of teamwork and technical excellence that characterise FS Engineering: expertise, oversight and vision, at the service of an infrastructure destined to transform the way people travel in the country.
