"HOUSTON-DALLAS" HIGH-SPEED RAIL PROJECT

One of the largest potential infrastructure investments ever considered for the United States railway sector, the project stands as a key flagship development under active review within the North American high-speed rail (HSR) landscape.

FS Engineering was engaged alongside the Salini Impregilo-Lane Group to provide technical assistance and preliminary engineering services preparatory to the construction phase of the Texas high-speed line linking Houston and Dallas.

The final design scope encompasses the delivery of a 390-kilometre rail alignment equipped with cutting-edge technological systems and extensive civil structures, engineered to connect the two major US cities with a travel time of just 90 minutes.

The design activities performed by the team facilitated a continuous, dynamic interface between the civil engineering and railway systems components, ensuring a highly successful review and validation of the completed civil structures designs.

Known as Texas Central, the new 240-mile (385 km) high-speed passenger rail line will connect Dallas and Houston via three dedicated stations located in Dallas, the Brazos Valley, and Houston. This mega-project, configured primarily on an elevated viaduct alignment, features a substantial multibillion-dollar investment for civil works. The target 90-minute end-to-end journey time will be achieved by deploying Japanese Shinkansen N700 technology and rolling stock.

The new high-speed rail link is set to deliver a transformative socio-economic impact for Texan communities, providing a fast, sustainable, and high-capacity transport corridor between the two metropolitan areas.
