FS Engineering supports the development of the Ethiopian railway system
FS Engineering signed a contract in Addis Ababa, at the headquarters of Ethiopian Railways, for consultancy services in the field of Operation & Maintenance relating to the new Addis Ababa – Djibouti railway line, stretching 752.7 km, which is the main link between the Ethiopian capital and the Port of Djibouti, as well as for the new Light Rail Transit (LRT) line in the city of Addis Ababa, with a total length of 17.41 km.
The contract was awarded by the Ethiopian Railway Corporation (ERC) with the aim of supporting the development of an integrated and efficient rail transport system, capable of ensuring competitiveness, safety and reliability for the movement of goods and passengers in Ethiopia. The activities covered by the contract were completed in 2016.
As part of the contract, the company developed the railway system’s Master Plan, defined the guidelines for Operations and Maintenance, and designed an organisational structure tailored to the client’s needs, whilst supporting the process by coordinating specialist training programmes for local staff.
By securing this contract, FS Engineering has laid the foundations for an expansion strategy across the African continent, characterised by a strong commitment from local governments, international financing institutions and private operators to invest in the development of transport infrastructure, thereby confirming its role as a key partner in international railway upgrading programmes.
