MASTER PLAN

Drawing up technical specifications and defining a regulatory framework

FS Engineering, in a joint venture with SPT, completed the Master Plan for Ethiopia in July 2022. This strategic document sets out the infrastructure development of the country’s entire transport system up to 2052, covering roads, railways, water transport, air transport, urban mobility, and logistics.

The Master Plan sets out an integrated, long-term vision for improving transport infrastructure, providing strategic and operational guidelines aimed at supporting economic growth, improving connectivity across the country and ensuring the sustainable development of the national transport system.

The official presentation of the results took place in Addis Ababa, at the Skylight Hotel, during a final workshop attended by the country’s key technical and institutional stakeholders, who were presented with a summary of the analyses and proposals contained in the Master Plan.

Ethiopia is now one of the African countries experiencing the fastest pace of development in the transport sector, as demonstrated by the 2016 inauguration of sub-Saharan Africa’s first LRT line, the significant expansion of air transport through Ethiopian Airlines, and the construction of new roads and motorways as part of an ambitious infrastructure programme funded by the World Bank.

The Master Plan was completed over a period of 24 months and marks the fifth project successfully completed by FS Engineering in Ethiopia, confirming the company’s role as a leading partner for the planning and development of transport systems in complex, rapidly growing international contexts.
