MUMBAI METRO
One of the world’s most densely populated cities, with over 18 million inhabitants
Mumbai has launched major programs to upgrade its transport infrastructure, with a particular focus on rail networks, to alleviate urban traffic congestion and curb the high levels of pollution caused largely by vehicular traffic.
In 2018, FS Engineering, operating in a joint venture with Spanish engineering firm Ayesa and local consultancy CEG, was awarded the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) contract for the extension of two primary corridors of the Mumbai Metro network:
Line 2B (Yellow Line)
This alignment connects Dahisar, in north-east Mumbai, with Mandale in Mankhurd, within the eastern part of the city. The Nagar–Mandala corridor spans 23.6 km, configured predominantly on viaducts, and features 19 new stations and a maintenance depot. Phase 1 of Line 2B was successfully commissioned and opened to passenger service in April 2026.
Line 7 (Red Line)
This alignment connects Andheri East to Dahisar East. The corridor is approximately 16.5 km long, operating on an elevated alignment, and comprises 13 stations. The line became fully operational for commercial revenue service in January 2023. It also provides future multi-modal connectivity to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport via the proposed Line 7A extension, and to Mira-Bhayander via Line 9.
