RAILWAY PROJECTS
FS Engineering is assisting Uzbek Railways in implementing a comprehensive program of electrification and asset modernization across its primary railway lines, situated in the heart of the country’s most economically productive region and along strategic Euro-Asian transport corridors.
ANGREN-PAP RAILWAY LINE
FS Engineering was awarded the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) contract by Uzbek Railways for the delivery of electrification works along the 124 km Angren–Pap railway line, which features a 19.2 km rail tunnel—the longest in Central Asia—traversing the Kamchik Pass. The project encompassed procurement support and installation supervision for signalling and telecommunications systems, alongside the procurement of specialized yellow plant (infrastructure maintenance machinery).
Works commenced in November 2016 and were successfully completed when the line was commissioned into revenue service in March 2020.
PAP-NAMANGAN-ANDIJAN RAILWAY LINE
FS Engineering, operating in a joint venture with Tecnic Consulting Engineers, was awarded the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) contract by Uzbek Railways for the technological modernization of the Pap–Namangan–Andijan line. Spanning approximately 145 km, this line is a strategically vital link connecting the primary cities of the Fergana Valley with the capital, Tashkent.
The scope of works includes independent design review, procurement and tender management, construction supervision, and systems commissioning. The project involves equipping the southern section of the Fergana loop—along the Angren–Pap–Kokand–Andijan corridors, as well as on specific secondary lines—with permanent signaling and telecommunications assets.
The scheme aims to significantly enhance operational efficiency and network safety standards, building upon previous network modernization initiatives in eastern Uzbekistan. The anticipated benefits include a substantial increase in line capacity within the existing single-track infrastructure layout, projecting an estimated 53 per cent increase for freight traffic and 39 per cent for passenger traffic, alongside improved service frequencies and operational reliability.
Launched in 2017 and completed in May 2021, the project forms part of a phased program of infrastructure development.
ANGREN-PAP-KOKAND-ANDIJAN RAILWAY LINE
Subsequently, FS Engineering was awarded the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) contract for the technological upgrading of the Angren–Pap–Kokand–Andijan corridor, covering a 260 km alignment, further enhancing rail network accessibility across the Fergana Valley. The scope of works encompasses independent design review, contract administration, and construction supervision, including the testing and commissioning of railway systems.
Works commenced in January 2022 and the contract program was scheduled to conclude in December 2025. Preliminary discussions are currently underway with the client regarding a potential extension to the scope and duration of services.
Collectively, the rail schemes delivered by FS Engineering in Uzbekistan provide a vital strategic contribution to the modernization of the national network and the strengthening of connectivity along primary Euro-Asian corridors, substantially improving the safety, capacity, and operational efficiency of the country’s railway infrastructure.
