RAILWAY REGULATORY BOARD

Achieving compliance of railway regulations with European standards: FS Engineering to strengthen the railway regulatory framework

FS Engineering, in a consortium with IRD Engineering, was awarded the contract for “Capacity building of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Railway Regulatory Board” by the European Commission Delegation in Sarajevo, aimed at improving the country’s railway sector.

The contract involved providing technical assistance to the Railway Regulatory Board (RRB) and key railway stakeholders, with the aim of supporting compliance of the national regulatory framework with European standards and directives.

In particular, the activities included:

  • updating the rules and procedures for issuing licences to train drivers
  • developing measures to improve the energy efficiency of the railway network, with a focus on traction systems
  • training RRB staff and sector stakeholders on the application of the new regulations governing railway maintenance and operations, in accordance with the TSIs and European standards.

The project, funded by the European Union, lasted a total of 12 months and was successfully completed, contributing to the strengthening both railway governance and the process of European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s transport system.
