FRONTIERA–CURTICI–SIMERIA RAILWAY LINE
The contract concerns one of Romania’s primary railway lines, part of a strategic European infrastructure programme designed to upgrade passenger and freight rail connectivity along major continental transport corridors
Between 2012 and 2020, FS Engineering contributed significantly to the renewal and upgrading of over 429 km of railway lines across Romania, modernising legacy assets and driving full alignment with European standards for operational safety, network interoperability, and high performance.
FS Engineering, operating as part of an international consortium, was awarded the contract to deliver independent construction supervision and site inspection services for the rehabilitation of the Frontieră–Curtici–Simeria railway line, covering a total length of approximately 100 km. This strategic section is part of Priority Axis 22 of the northern branch of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) Rhine-Danube Core Network Corridor, providing a rail link connecting Nuremberg, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Curtici, Simeria, Brașov, Bucharest, and the Black Sea port of Constanța.
The works covered by the contract include the installation of the ERTMS Level 2 system, the GSM-R signalling and telecommunications system, as well as the upgrading of 15 stations and around 45 bridges and tunnels.
The aim of the project is to modernise the railway infrastructure and superstructure for passenger traffic, in order to enable operating speeds of up to 160 km/h, thereby improving capacity, safety and service quality.
Work is currently underway and underscores FS Engineering’s role in strengthening the integration of the Romanian rail network into the main European transport corridors.
