RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA

FS Engineering is strengthening its footprint in the Balkans through a strategic contribution to the planning and modernisation of the country’s transport network

Commissioned by the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR), FS Engineering developed Serbia’s National Transport Plan, defining the overarching development framework for rail, road, aviation, and inland waterway infrastructure across the entire country. The strategy highlights the country’s role as a pivotal hub within the transport network of South-Eastern Europe, situated at the crossroads of major pan-European corridors. These include Corridor X (the Germany/Austria–Greece/Turkey axis), Corridor VII (the Danube river corridor), and the strategic Belgrade–Bar railway line.

The company was also appointed by the European Union Delegation in Belgrade to develop a new computerized Railway Management System (RMS) to modernise the management and maintenance of the Serbian rail network. The engineering scope included an extensive aerial survey campaign of lineside assets to build a comprehensive asset database of the entire infrastructure along Pan-European Corridor X and the Belgrade–Bar route, and the definition of a new organisational model and operational procedures to support the introduction of a smart infrastructure diagnostics and condition-based maintenance system.

The project was successfully completed, cementing FS Engineering’s position as a leading technical assurance partner in strategic planning and innovation processes for railway systems across the Balkan region.
