MUSCAT STATION
In the preliminary design for Oman’s first national railway, developed by FS Engineering for Oman Rail, Muscat Station is conceived as a lush oasis along the railway alignment. This modern transport corridor evokes and reimagines the historic caravan journeys across the desert and mountains to the sea, offering travellers hospitality, amenities, and high-quality services.
The architectural identity of the future station draws inspiration from the convergence of desert dunes and ocean waves. The clarity and transparency of water blend seamlessly with the sinuous lines of the sand, giving rise to an expansive concourse defined by a steel structure clad in glass reinforced concrete (GRC) panels. The curved, fluid surfaces create a constantly evolving landscape, establishing a dialogue between natural elements and the built environment.
The project achieves a harmonious integration of landscape and architecture, utilising a minimalist formal language and an intuitive functional layout. This configuration is specifically designed to guide passenger wayfinding, leading them seamlessly from the main entrance to the concourse and ticket offices, and through to the platforms.
FS Engineering acted as the lead designer, contributing to the creation of an iconic and prestigious infrastructure asset that balances architectural excellence, operational functionality, and coherence with Oman’s geographical and cultural context.
