The 15th edition of InnoTrans, the world’s leading international trade fair for transport technology and sustainable mobility, has drawn to a close in Berlin.
From 22 to 25 September, FS Berlin, 25 Septermber 2026Engineering showcased its expertise alongside the FS Group. The company presented some of its most advanced solutions for the digital monitoring of infrastructure and construction sites, reaffirming its role as a key driver of engineering and digital innovation in support of sustainable mobility.
For FS Engineering, the event provided a major platform to demonstrate to international stakeholders, institutions, and industry operators how digital transformation is reshaping the design, delivery, and control of infrastructure projects.
High-tech drones, Digital Control Rooms, and advanced data management: FS Engineering demonstrates how digital technologies are transforming the design, monitoring, and construction of major rail infrastructure projects in Italy and worldwide.
Among the technologies on display, the high-tech drones used for land surveys, digital mapping, advanced site monitoring, and the inspection of complex civil engineering structures such as bridges, viaducts, and tunnels, attracted a great deal of attention. Utilizing a fleet of 20 drones equipped with LiDAR, photogrammetry, and thermal sensors, FS Engineering is able to rapidly capture high-precision images, videos, and georeferenced data, thus significantly enhancing safety, quality, and efficiency across both design and construction phases.
Deploying these technologies will reduce survey times, optimise works progress monitoring, and deliver increasingly reliable data to support decision-making, helping to prevent delays and inefficiencies across major infrastructure programmes.
From data collection to the Digital Control Room
The approach showcased in Berlin extends far beyond field data acquisition. The data captured by drones is integrated into an advanced digital ecosystem that includes BIM models up to 8D and next-generation data architectures. This system enables infrastructure monitoring across the entire asset lifecycle, supporting the highly effective delivery of complex projects.
A prime example of this innovation is the Digital Control Room developed by FS Engineering, a digital operations hub enabling integrated monitoring of major infrastructure sites through advanced technology platforms, data analytics tools, and real-time control systems that can enhance safety, operational efficiency, and decision-making capabilities.
This model reflects FS Engineering’s vision of building comprehensive digital ecosystems, environments in which field surveys, sensors, information platforms, monitoring systems, and advanced technologies work seamlessly together to create a single, reliable source of truth (SSOT), fully prepared to leverage the emerging opportunities of Artificial Intelligence.
InnoTrans: A global showcase for the future of mobility
Attending InnoTrans allowed FS Engineering to showcase skills and technologies that are actively deployed across the FS Group’s major infrastructure programmes, contributing to the global dialogue on digitalisation, sustainability, and rail innovation.
Set against an event that brought together over 2,900 exhibitors from around 60 countries, the Berlin experience concludes with a highly positive outlook. It provided international visibility, opened dialogue with leading industry players, and highlighted the solutions that establish FS Engineering as a benchmark in rail and infrastructure engineering, both in Italy and abroad.
