Verona–Vicenza HS railway line

FS Engineering plays a key role as testing begins on the new line

Verona, 6 October 2026

The start of train testing on the new Verona–Vicenza High-Speed/High-Capacity railway line marks a key milestone in the development of the Verona–Padua railway corridor, one of the most strategic infrastructure projects for enhancing mobility in North-Eastern Italy.

On the night of 6 October, speed testing began on the new line, turning years of design, construction, inspections and coordination into a concrete and tangible result.

The Diamante diagnostic train travelled at 150 km/h along approximately 44 kilometres of new double-track railway, marking the start of a crucial phase in the functional testing process that will lead to infrastructure certification and subsequent entry into service.

FS Engineering has also played a key role in achieving this important milestone, through the daily commitment of its managers and technical specialists in overseeing the construction of civil works, railway track and technological systems.

The company has ensured the overall coordination of the process, bringing together the technical, contractual, authorisation and scheduling aspects of the project. This complex activity, often carried out alongside existing railway operations, required continuous monitoring of construction works, coordination of testing activities, quality control and the management of interfaces with the existing railway line.

The start of test runs represents a particularly significant milestone, as it enables the performance of the infrastructure and installed technologies to be verified under real operating conditions, confirming the quality of the work carried out and the effective integration of all components of the railway system.

Over the coming months, the testing programme will continue with speed tests and current collection tests at speeds of up to 275 km/h, followed by checks on the ERTMS system and final testing ahead of the line’s entry into service. This process will progressively lead to the infrastructure becoming fully operational.

The first train running on the new Verona–Vicenza line represents much more than a technical milestone: it is tangible evidence of an infrastructure project taking shape thanks to the expertise, professionalism and coordination capabilities of the people involved. A result that once again confirms FS Engineering’s role in supporting the delivery of complex and strategic railway projects for the development of sustainable mobility in Italy.
