Verona, June 27–28, 2026
Over the night of June 27–28, crews successfully completed the structural launch of the road overpass spanning the A4 motorway. This milestone marks a critical phase in the construction of the new Verona–Vicenza HS/HC rail link. The engineering works also included the comprehensive remodelling of the Verona Est interchange required to remove any interference with the future rail corridor.
The infrastructure—a steel-arch overpass featuring a 62-meter clear span and a deck width of 19 meters—was assembled on-site before being positioned through a highly advanced heavy-lifting operation. Weighing approximately 715 metric tons, the entire structure was maneuvered into place using Self-Propelled Modular Trailers (SPMTs), a heavy-transport technology capable of ensuring millimetre-level alignment precision under exceptionally constrained operational conditions.
Throughout this phase, FS Engineering served as the central technical authority, executing construction management and high-level site supervision to guarantee total compliance with strict quality and safety protocols. Safely positioning the bridge onto its temporary support structure required meticulous execution and seamless coordination among all the parties involved.
The ensure the smoothest possible execution it was necessary to close the stretch of motorway concerned between 22:30 on June 27 and 5:30 on June 28. Engineering works were executed strictly on schedule, enabling the seamless and incident-free restoration of traffic flows.
This successful deployment highlights FS Engineering’s capability to spearhead complex infrastructure interventions in high-impact operational areas, while maintaining rigorous technical oversight across all project phases and ensuring close coordination with the client and infrastructure manager RFI, the general contractor, and the concessionaire Autostrada Brescia-Verona-Vicenza-Padova.
The successful launch of this infrastructure marks a decisive milestone in the completion of the Verona–Vicenza HS/HC rail link, a strategic corridor designed to optimize rail capacity, enhance mobility, and drive regional economic development.
