FS Engineering has accelerated its growth in Canada, recently securing several key contracts for some of Ontario’s largest public transport projects, such as the Ontario Line Rolling Stock, Systems, Operations and Maintenance (RSSOM) project, the Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT), and the Scarborough Subway Extension, underscoring the Canadian subsidiary's growing reputation for delivering major rail and mass transit infrastructure.
The contract for the Ontario Line RSSOM includes the delivery of Construction Phase Services for the permanent way (P-way), as a development of the prior design work carried out by the Company. This expands FS Engineering’s remit from early-stage design to line construction, covering site inspections, independent verification, and witnessing, and the handover of technical files for formal engineering assurance and certification.
As one of the Greater Toronto Area's most ambitious urban transit projects, the Ontario Line will combine underground, elevated, and at-grade sections to transform city-wide connectivity through cutting-edge engineering.
FS Engineering is working alongside key industry stakeholders to ensure seamless integration across the design, construction, and certification phases.
In a related development, Connect 6ix Contractor has appointed the firm to deliver RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety) services. This contract extends FS Engineering’s involvement further into the asset lifecycle, deploying world-class systems engineering expertise aligned with international best practices as defined by the CENELEC EN 50126 standard.
In parallel, cooperation continues with the Mobilinx Consortium on the Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, where FS Engineering has led the Civil Safety Verification & Validation (V&V) work since 2022.
The extension of this contract will see the firm guide the project through its upcoming construction phases. The scope covers safety requirements verification, Hazard Log management, compliance evidence auditing, interface management, and technical support during testing, commissioning, and final safety certification.
These latest milestones consolidate FS Engineering’s position in the Canadian market, driven by a blend of specialist technical skills, deep knowledge of North American rail networks, and a proven track record in managing complex infrastructure programmes.
The firm's ongoing role on the Ontario Line, its multi-year commitment to the Hurontario LRT, and its technical support for the newly awarded Scarborough Subway Extension showcase its ability to build long-term relationships with clients, contractors, and industry partners. By doing so, FS Engineering continues to expand its footprint across increasingly diverse projects that are vital to the future of Canadian mobility.
At the heart of this growth is an operating model that seamlessly blends a strong local presence in Canada with the capabilities of FS Engineering’s international network. This approach allows the business to deploy highly qualified, multidisciplinary teams that pair on-the-ground local expertise with specialist engineering know-how from Italy.
Ultimately, this strategy showcases the broader FS Group's capabilities in North America, firmly establishing FS Engineering as a trusted partner for delivering Canada's major infrastructure programme.
