The carbon footprint (CF) is a vital sustainability indicator used to report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated by human activities, expressed in CO₂ equivalent.

FS Engineering has voluntarily developed a methodology to quantify greenhouse gas emissions generated by infrastructure development right from the design stage, in strict accordance with UNI EN ISO 14064-1. This methodology serves as an effective operational tool to guide engineers in refining design solutions with a clear view to reducing carbon emissions. Furthermore, the transparent disclosure of these emission metrics acts as a powerful lever to drive sustainable choices among other stakeholders across the infrastructure value chain, specifically by:

  • Encouraging contractors to source construction materials from suppliers who formally declare their products’ environmental impacts using internationally recognised methodologies, such as environmental labels.
  • Identifying more sustainable supply chains right at the outset of the tendering and procurement processes.

A RECOGNISED METHODOLOGY

An independent, third-party body periodically conducts rigorous audits on a sample of our projects to verify full compliance with the requirements of the UNI EN ISO 14064-1 standard. The verified outcomes of these carbon footprint calculations are formally compiled into comprehensive Summary Reports.
