The Envision™ protocol is the first rating system for designing and delivering sustainable infrastructure. Developed through a collaboration between the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) and the Zofnass Programme for Sustainable Infrastructure, the framework comprises 64 sustainability credits divided across five core categories: Quality of Life, Leadership, Resource Use, Natural World, and Climate and Resilience. Based on the total score achieved, projects can secure one of four certification levels: Verified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum.
Envision serves as a comprehensive guide to the decision-making process, providing robust sustainability metrics to help designers and clients assess the extent to which a scheme contributes to sustainable development.

ENVISION SP
The Envision™ protocol is applied thanks to the presence at FS Engineering of over 50 Envision Sustainability Professionals (SPs), who are trained and kept up to date through ICMQ Italia-certified courses.
CERTIFICATIONS
FS Engineering supports clients in integrating the Envision approach and principles, to ensure a holistic and sustainable design right from the early stages of the project, and with a view to obtaining Envision certification following the construction phase. The certification of the Apice–Hirpinia Lot 1 project, part of the Naples–Bari railway line, is cited as an example of ISI best practice.
ENVISION GUIDELINES FOR RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURE
FS Engineering has adopted a comprehensive set of guidelines for the design and construction of railway infrastructure in strict accordance with Envision certification. This framework steers key engineering decisions towards a more beneficial balance between infrastructure, the environment, and society. The guidelines were drawn up in close collaboration with Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, the national infrastructure operator, and ICMQ, the Institute for Certification and Quality Marking in the construction sector. Capitalising on this industry-leading expertise, FS Engineering also supports external sector partners in drafting bespoke Envision Guidelines dedicated to specific infrastructure domains, including motorways and passenger stations.
