The National Centre for Sustainable Mobility (MOST) was established as a high-impact research initiative financed by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) and overseen by the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR). The programme aims to promote and support the development of innovative, sustainable, and inclusive solutions nationwide, contributing to the environmental, technological, and social transformation of mobility systems.
The project, which lasted a total of three years, was completed in 2025.

SPOKE 9 Urban Mobility: ‘Sustainable Urban Mobility Services’ Work Package for the definition, development and testing of a GIS plug-in relating to a Sustainable Intermodal Walkability Index (SIWI) to support the sustainable design of urban spaces dedicated to mobility. |
SPOKE 4 Analysis of railway routes for new traction systems: battery-powered trains, hydrogen-powered trains and the use of partially electrified traction systems. Study of innovative models aimed at improving the energy efficiency of the Italian railway network through the use of innovative components in substations. Analysis of the use of energy from renewable sources within the railway infrastructure, a strategic priority for the FS Group. |
