In recent years, FS Engineering has devoted considerable effort to developing methodologies designed to assess the contribution of railway projects to territorial cohesion, responding to the growing focus of national and European policies on this objective.
Territorial cohesion is regarded as the spatial dimension of sustainability, highlighting the potential of infrastructure projects to reduce regional inequalities and imbalances while promoting high standards of quality of life and social inclusion. The TIA methodology at FS Engineering serves as a vital tool for sustainable railway design, supporting engineers, clients, and decision-makers during both the definition of design choices and the subsequent communication and verification phases with institutional stakeholders.
THE FS GROUP’S COMMITMENT TO TERRITORIAL COHESION
Our Sustainability Unit has launched a collaborative initiative with the FS Research Centre and other internal and external stakeholders to consolidate and trial a Territorial Impact Assessment methodology. This framework defines the contribution of railway projects to regional cohesion, supporting designers, clients, and decision-makers in perfect synergy with other sustainability protocols. This ongoing collaboration has resulted in numerous scientific publications and active participation in international conferences, highlighting our rigorous analysis of technical benchmarks and technical-scientific cooperation aimed at defining specialist guidelines to consolidate their application across railway infrastructure.
